Growth Technologies was born out of necessity — the need for a better way to fertilize plants. That pursuit led to Nitro-Mag, the first true innovation in plant fertility in more than 25 years.

The idea started in an unexpected place: a garage. Lead agronomist and creator of Nitro-Mag, Marcus Dennis, had a light-bulb moment and began experimenting with what was available — including his wife’s blender.

“I didn’t know if it would work until I ran out to the garage,” Dennis says. “We all know great things happen in garages.”

Through hands-on experimentation, Dennis developed a formulation that delivers everything a plant needs to perform at its best — combining the highest form of nitrogen with magnesium, boron, chloride, and humic acid. Once the blend proved effective, the next challenge was stability. Dennis tested the mixture overnight in refrigerators and freezers, refining it until it held up consistently.

Those experiments led to the very first bottle of Nitro-Mag — and what would soon become a breakthrough in fertilizer technology.

From the beginning, the vision was clear. CEO Jeremy Henderson immediately recognized Nitro-Mag’s potential to change the industry.

“When I saw what we had — and what it could do for farmers — I was fully behind it,” Henderson says.

The goal was simple but ambitious: create a premium product that delivers everything the plant needs, produces higher yields, and remains affordable for growers.

Dennis and Henderson began taking Nitro-Mag directly to top Nebraska farmers. Season after season, growers tested it and reported outstanding results. To ensure performance was backed by science, Growth Technologies also conducted third-party test strips and lab analysis.

Interest quickly grew — not only among farmers, but also among some of the most respected organizations in agriculture, including Total Acre.

Brian Mattix, Vice President of Product Trials for Total Acre, shared his reaction after visiting the farm of a Nitro-Mag grower:

“Randy showed me his tissue samples, and I started looking through them thinking, man — this is moving the needle. Then I asked about yield results. He told me, ‘A lot of years I see a 10- to 12-bushel response compared to my control.’ That’s what really got my attention.”
